06/07/10 - Ready to Respond Event

Members of the team have taken part in the ready to respond event at Worcestershire County Hall. The crew were there as part of the vent organised by Worcestershire CVEC. Members of the category 1 & 2 responders were there to view the capabilities of the volunteer sector and to see the levels of equipment and training that the various teams could boast.

ATBRU were there with 3 of their specialist ambulance response bikes. Team members worked in partnership with St John Ambulance and British Red Cross in a mock scenario. Medic Zoe Jeynes, and support rider Jane Bradley-Jones demonstrated their skills while dealing with a casualty with a serious head and neck injury.

The team received a lot of interest from the delegates. Most seemed amazed at the equipment that the team carry on the bikes. The feedback was excellent and the event has helped raise ATBRU's profile in the emergency response world.

A big thank you goes out to Jeremy Voaden (British Red Cross), Mike Warner (WCC) and Andrew Lewis (BRC) for their efforts in organising a fantastic event.

Below you can see some of the media coverage raised by the event.

Members of the team met Mark Beaumont, the team patron, for the first time. Mark was giving a talk about his round the world cycle record and his recent north to south america challenge. Mark has been promoting his book and tv series by giving talks to packed theatres around the country. Mark's talk was well received by the Malvern audience, with Mark talking about his experiences beyond the tv series and his book. ATBRU run their first community training programme.

Youngsters from a training programme run from the Malvern Hills Foyer got their very first taste of emergency medicine today. The one day course was run for 16 - 19 year olds who are attending the Foyer as part of the GenR8 training programme.

The youngster learned the skills of basic life support and the use of automated external defibrillators. All the youngsters passed the course and were pleased that they felt they had the skills to help others in times of need.
